FAQ's

Using BEEALERT:

The system only applies to spraying of insecticides. All insecticides currently approved for use in the Ireland are held on the system’s database, and users will be able to select either the product name or active ingredient drop-down list when they enter an event.

You should remember that it remains the sprayer operator’s responsibility to read the label of any crop protection product they are using and ensure they comply with the label’s requirements. While we make every effort to ensure our system is up to date and accurate, farmers and contractors should not rely on BEEALERT to satisfy themselves a product is approved for use in the Ireland.

The Code of Practice for Using Plant Protection Products and most farm assurance schemes generally advise farmers give 48 hours’ notice, and farmers should seek to comply with this.

Farmers can quickly edit an existing spray event using the system, either to delete the event or change the date. Farmers should do this as soon as possible following a change of plan.

Yes. Beekeepers mapping hives for the first time, or mapping new hives, will receive notifications for any spray events in the vicinity that farmers have logged which have not already passed. Beekeepers may also wish to include the potential locations of their hives, as well as the actual locations so that they can make informed decisions if considering moving a hive.

For the purposes of the system, spray operators who are providing contracting services to farmers or landowners should register as “farmers”. You should liaise with the farmer or landowner to avoid any duplication in logging events (i.e. both using the system independently for the same spray events).

Yes. As long as the farmers have added the relevant fields, they can include them all under a single spray event (assuming the same crop is being treated with the same insecticide or insecticides). The beekeeper will receive a single notification regardless of the number of insecticides being applied. However, he will receive a separate notification for each field, depending on whether it is within the beekeeper’s defined notification distance.
